Are you ready for Mobilegeddon? Google is changing the importance of having a mobile-friendly website and actually telling us about it beforehand!
On April 21st, 2015, the king of search, Google, will be factoring in whether or not your mobile website is responsive and including that element into its organic search algorithm. . “We will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal,” Google.
For years we’ve known that Google includes having a mobile site into its search rankings, and now they’re taking that a step further! “We’ve made it easier for users to find mobile-friendly web pages,“ Google.
If you’re not already paying close attention to your competition, now is the time to do so. This change also means that if your competition has a mobile-responsive website they will likely show up higher in the search results than you.
So what is a mobile responsive website? It’s a type of web design focusing on making sites more user friendly by providing the ideal viewing experience with less resizing, panning, and scrolling across a wide range of devices. There are many different ways people could view your mobile site- from a phone or tablet, on a gaming station like Xbox 360 or PS4 and even on smart TV’s and smart watches! So with the wide range of sizes people can view your site, having them do less work to navigate to the information that is most important to them is essential.
If you’re not on board yet with getting mobile-friendly, here are some eye popping stats:
- Over HALF of the US population searches on a mobile device.
